Small Talk: AFIE JURVANEN

Who are you and what do you do:
I’m a joker, I’m a smoker, I’m a midnight toker. I play my music in the sun..
.
Why do you do what you do:
My friends were all musicians when I was young. If they had of been jocks, things might have turned out differently.
.
Current obsessions:
80′s Dylan. It’s what most people would refer to as “complete shit.” I’m super into it. It’s kinda like when you meet a girl at some bar and she’s wearing giant heels and way too much make up and texting all the time. Underneath all that, she might be a pretty cool chick, but you have to get through that whole annoying production to find out. In my experience, it’s worth it.
.
Song you wish you wrote:
Hey Ya by Outkast. Would be nice to be living off those royalties right now..
.
Most played track on your itunes:
Hey Ya by Outkast
.
Most cherished musical object:
My guitar tuner. Being in tune is very important and often overlooked.
.
Go-to album on a rainy day:
Solo Piano, Gonzales
.
Proudest moment:
I’m proud of my mom for being wicked awesome. Every thing she does is awesome and she’s my mom.
.
Most vulnerable moment:
Any Toronto show. Playing music for your friends and peers is terrifying.
.
Are you most influenced by your surroundings or your inner monologue:
Definitely my own mind. It’s creepy in there.
.
Favourite venue to play in and why:
Ryman Auditorium. It’s sounds insane in there. Insane.
.
Dream venue to play in and why:
Duh, Buddakon.
.
Top album released this year:
Feist, Metals. It’s not out yet, but trust me, it’s awesome.
.
First band t-shirt you ever purchased from a merch table:
A Neil Young hoodie. It was $80. I don’t know what I was thinking..
.
Band you’d leave your bandmates for:
I already did that and it only lasted a few years…now it’s time to stick it out.
.
Album you wish your parents exposed you to in the womb:
Hey Ya, Outkast
.
Album you want to expose your kin to whilst in the womb:
Music as we know it might not exist by the time I have a kid. It will have been wiped off the face of the earth by Twitter, Yoga and the Kardashian’s..
.
Last record you purchased:
Ray Charles. Some greatest hits for the long drive home.
.
If for some reason you lost the ability to make and play music, what would fill that gap:
Twitter, Yoga and the Kardashian’s.
.
